In this painting the two patterns are tilted slightly with regards to each other, and pass through each other at the horizontal mid-line of the painting. The brown pattern is reproduced from Escher's sketches of tiling patterns found in the Alhambra in Spain. The green pattern isn't, technically speaking, a tiling, but I found it interesting because it reminded me of dragon scales.
